The Department of Justice (DOJ) has requested an injunction to protect the gem. It came into the custody of the Los Angeles County Clerk’s Office in 2015. The Brazilian government has requested his detention ever since.
on Thursday U.S. District Judge Reggie Walton ruled that the gems must be returned to Brazil. In court documents obtained by Fox News Digital, Walton wrote that those arguing the Brazilian government had “insufficient (evidence) to prohibit the return of the emeralds to Brazil.”

In a statement, white-shoe law firm Meyer Brown called the decision a “victory” and described its efforts to bring the gem home.

“After Brazilians who participated in Emerald’s illegal exports lost their appeal rights, Mayer Brown worked with Brazil to develop a request under the Mutual Legal Assistance Treaty (MLAT) between the United States and the United States. and Brazil to enforce Brazilian confiscation orders,” the company explains.
