Day 6 of the Space Telescope Advent Calendar 2024: Galactic Collision This Hubble image includes the galaxy Arp 122, which is actually a galaxy. It consists of two colliding large galaxies: NGC 6040, a left-facing spiral galaxy, and LEDA 59642, a right-facing spiral galaxy. This cosmic merger occurred approximately 570 million light-years from Earth and occurred over billions of light-years.
