The Los Angeles Dodgers continued their spending spree from last year, even after winning the World Series.
The Dodgers moved into their unlimited cap space and signed Blakesnell to a five-year, $182 million deal, according to multiple reports.
Some other reports also indicate that the deal has been postponed.

The Dodgers forked out more than $1 billion in contracts last year. And now they’ve agreed to their first nine-figure deal this offseason. Less than a month after winning the Fall Classic.
Snell joins San Francisco team The Giants last season on a two-year deal that included opting out after a Cy Young Award-winning campaign in 2023, but teams were afraid to commit to him. Let him be a free agent until March.
His season didn’t start out well. Since he had a 9.51 ERA in his first six starts – he was also posted on the IL in that frame. But in his final 14 outings, he pitched to a paltry 1.23 ERA, striking out 114 batters in 80.1 innings. Understandably, the Dodgers liked what they saw from left field.

Los Angeles plans to bring Shohei Ohtani back into the rotation. And it remains to be seen the fate of Clayton Kershaw and Walker Buehler, with the former more likely to stay in L.A. and continue his Dodger career if he doesn’t retire.
But they will get Tyler. Glasnow came back too. And they are the favorites to grab Japan’s famous Roki Sasaki. Just like they did last year with Yoshinobu Yamamoto.
Snell has become one of the less popular arms in baseball. This might be because he didn’t go deep into the game. He pitched a no-hitter in 2024, but that was the first time he recorded a performance in the eighth inning of his career.
His 11.2 K/9 is the best in MLB history and his career ERA is 3.19, although he only has one All-Star nod. But he’s still an anomaly in at least some Hall of Fame ways.

Snell turns 32 next week. So maybe the Dodgers are taking some risks. But it’s pretty clear that they can overcome any mistakes they might make.
The first big splash went to Dodgers…and maybe they’re not finished yet.
