Elton John has strong feelings about legalizing marijuana.

“I maintain that it is addictive,” he said. “It leads to other drugs. And when you are stoned – and I was stoned – you cannot think properly.”
The singer added: “The legalization of marijuana in America and Canada was one of the greatest mistakes of all time.”

Time reports that when John was asked if he had similar thoughts to alcohol, He stopped and looked at his husband, David Furnish, who was also present for the interview, for help answering. In 1974, the same year John released hits like “Bennie and the Jets” and “Candle in the Wind,” he became introduced to cocaine and eventually became addicted.

“You made a terrible decision about drugs,” he recalls. “I really wanted love. I’m just being held hostage. I met someone I liked and spent three or four months together. John explains: “I don’t believe much in a Biblical God. But I have faith My higher power has been watching over me all my life. He put me through drugs. He got me through my depression. He got me through. Loneliness and him keep me sane. He was there all the time. I just don’t accept him.”
He and Furnish share two sons, Zachary, who was born in 2010, and Elijah, who was born in 2013. He told Time that if he had the opportunity to give away his talent and the fame that comes with it, His talent gave them He won’t do that.
“I have had an incredible life. But it was a terrible life. And it’s boring,” he said. “I don’t want them to put that pressure on me.”
