The New York City Police Department is investigating after a baby was left in a cloth bag near an apartment building in the Bronx.

Police responded to a 911 call just after 6 a.m. Sunday to a call of a crying baby. and found that someone had wrapped a baby girl in a blanket in a cloth bag and left the bag in front of an apartment building on Reverend James A. Polite Avenue, according to officials.

NYPD said the baby, which has not yet been identified, was taken to NYC Health + Hospitals/Jacobi. in stable condition and remains under the care of hospital staff

“Hearing this is very concerning for this area,” a local resident told FOX 5 NY.

The department shared surveillance video that shows a man wearing a black hooded sweatshirt walking down the sidewalk with a green tote bag.

A department spokesperson told Fox News Digital on Monday that the suspect’s gender was unknown. “It is not clear at this time” and advised the public to watch the video.

The suspect accused of burning a woman to death on a New York subway was previously deported as an illegal immigrant.

They added that there was nothing left with the baby in the bag.
