Tennessee lawmakers have introduced a bill that would require law enforcement agencies to deport illegal immigrants accused of minor crimes to sanctuary cities. Instead of deporting them to another country
State Rep. Todd Warner, a Republican, filed a Tennessee illegal immigration bill. Before the legislative session The proposal would also ensure that all law enforcement agencies report illegal immigrants to federal immigration authorities.

Under the bill, if ICE doesn’t show up within 48 hours to pick up an illegal immigrant in custody, Law enforcement agencies will help transport them to the holy city. Warner said arresting agencies would be responsible for transporting detained immigrants.
Warner said this would be paid for by deductions that Tennessee creates for the federal government through gas taxes.
The lawmaker said he plans to add an amendment clarifying that the bill would only apply to illegal immigrants accused of minor offenses. Violent criminals can still be deported.

“This is for victimless crimes. This is not appropriate for people who have committed serious crimes,” Warner told Fox 17.
Hannah Smalley, advocacy and education manager for Tennessee Justice for Our Neighbors, argued that the proposal would unnecessarily separate immigrant families.
“The mere act of being removed from your family is damaging,” she told Fox 17, “which means that people This includes people who have not been charged with a crime. will have to face the consequences of actual punishment on the basis of their immigration status.”

“When U.S. citizens Commit a crime and we pay the fine or we go to jail,” she added. “Immigrants do that too, so creating this story about someone’s immigration status This is completely separate from any type of crime they have committed. Warner said he still needs to make adjustments to the bill. But he hopes the bill will win bipartisan support in the Legislature.
