Fewer people are watching the NBA than in previous years. Including some famous sports.
Ratings for NBA games on ABC, ESPN, TNT and NBA TV are down 25% through Saturday, according to Sports Media Watch, and there are many ideas as to why.
Two key Bugaboos observers pointed out the three-pointer trend and lack of defense.
And it is clear that players are resting more often than ever before. And the regular season has decreased in recent years.

Joe Mazzulla, Boston head coach The Celtics have been asked about their declining ratings, and one would think the reigning champions’ coach would defend his game. But that’s not the case.
“I also added that I don’t watch NBA games. I’m just as troubled as anyone else,” Mazzulla admitted, adding that he “I’d like to see something else.”
“I don’t like watching games.”

RICK PITINO, former NBA coach, offers idea to help ratings
NBA Commissioner Adam Silver recently pointed to “declining cable” as a factor in declining ratings.
“Our younger audience doesn’t subscribe to cable, and those fans aren’t discovering our games,” he said.
The NBA tried to revive the regular season with the addition of the NBA Cup, which ended this week with the Milwaukee Bucks winning in Las Vegas. However, most fans didn’t take the NBA Cup seriously, despite the money at stake.

It should be noted that TV ratings for men’s college basketball and the NHL also dropped 21% and 28%, respectively, from last season. Women’s college basketball also saw a 38% drop, but Caitlin Clark drew historic numbers that also trended lower.
