Charles Shyer, who was nominated for an Oscar for co-writing “Private Benjamin” and directed such hits as “Father of the Bride” and “Baby Boom,” has died. 83 years old

On Saturday, Shyer’s representative confirmed the filmmaker’s death to Fox News Digital. His daughter Hallie Meyers-Shyer, whom he shared with his former co-star and ex-wife Nancy Meyers, told hollywood reporter that her father died Friday at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles after a brief illness.

Meyers and Shyer later created a sitcom of the same name based on the film. which aired from 1988 to 1989

The former couple’s success continued when they reworked Vincente Minnelli’s 1950 comedy Father of the Bride, a 1990 hit version of “Father of the Bride” starring Steve Martin. , Keaton, Kimberly Williams and Martin Short, directed by Scheer. He also co-wrote the screenplay with Meyers, Frances Goodrich and Albert Hackett.

The former couple worked together on the 1994 film “I Love Trouble,” which the two wrote and directed by Shyers.

Shyers and Meyers reunited for the 1995 sequel “Father of the Bride Part II.” They shared writing credits and Shyers served as director.

He is survived by Hallie and Annie and twins Jacob and Sophia, with whom he lived with Lynn.
