Day 7 of the Space Telescope Advent Calendar 2024: Three supernovae visible NASA’s James Webb Space Telescope’s NIRCam examines the galaxy cluster PLCK G165.7+67.0, also known as Known as G165 in this image, the foreground cluster, 3.6 billion light-years from Earth, is magnifying and refracting the light of the distant universe through a gravitational lens. Astronomers have discovered the light of a supernova captured three times. It is seen as a point of light within a prominent red arc beneath the center of the image. to get three images Light travels along three different paths. Because each route has a different length. and light travels at the same speed. The supernova was thus observed in this Webb image at three different times during the explosion.
