Head of the Russian Nuclear Defense Force and an assistant died in the Moscow explosion.

Lt. Gen. Igor Kirillov, head of Russia’s nuclear, biological and chemical defense forces. and his assistant died during Tuesday’s explosion in Moscow.

Russia’s Investigative Committee said the explosive device was placed on a scooter near a residential apartment building, according to The Associated Press.

“Investigators Forensic expert and operational services are working at the scene,” RIC spokeswoman Svetlana Petrenko said in a statement. “Investigation and search activities are underway to establish the full circumstances surrounding this crime.”
