Some evacuees express fear while living in shelters. It is believed they will soon become the target of attacks under the Trump administration.
“People are desperate to get out,” Nicolaza Criollo told the New York Times.
The NYT reports that more than 225,000 immigrants will enter the city since 2022, costing New York more than $6 billion in housing costs.

However, the NYT appears to be downplaying its criticism of the immigration crisis.
“Even critics blame immigrants for draining public resources. But more than half of the migrants the city has sheltered since the start of 2022 have left the system. and the number of immigrants has decreased,” the report wrote.
