Meanwhile, the Falcons head into Week 18 needing a win and a Buccaneers loss to retain the NFC South, their only chance of reaching the playoffs as the other team has a better record.

as specified This competition requires additional time. But the reason behind it is pure rookie time for Michael Penix Jr., the Falcons’ eighth overall pick, who comes in competition with Commanders No. 1 pick Jayden Daniels’ No. 2 overall pick.

Throughout the season, Daniels cemented himself as the Offensive Rookie of the Year. Did a great job putting Washington in position to reach the playoffs.

But Penix, making the second start of his career, Found himself scoring a touchdown with less than five minutes to play in the fourth quarter. and are in the play-off position

Penix capped the surgery on fourth-and-goal with a 13-yard strike between several Commander defenders to find tight end Kyle Pitts, who tied the game after the extra point went through the uprights.

After a three-and-out by Daniels and Commissioner’s offense that had a chance to win the game, Penix and the Falcons had just over a minute to try and get into field goal range for Riley Patterson.

They came very close after Penix found Darnell Mooney for a 25-yard pickup which put them close to midfield. However, on third-and-5 from the Atlanta 49-yard line, a pass from Penix to Mooney resulted in defensive pass interference. This allowed Patterson to attempt at least 56 yards for the win.

The kick that followed was on the line. But there weren’t enough legs as it fell to the back of the end zone to force extra time.

Daniels dropped back to pass and laser the ball to Zach Ertz, his reliable hitter. His second touchdown of the night was the game winner.
