There were reports of people gathering early Friday morning to pray at the Adass Israel synagogue in Ripponlea. Two masked arsonists are seen pouring accelerators into a building and quickly setting it on fire. The suspect fled the scene and remains at large.
“We believe it was intentional. We believe it was targeted. What we don’t know is why,” Victoria Police Detective Inspector Sgt. Chris Murray said according to Israeli time
Flames spread through the building and caused extensive damage. There were no reports of serious injuries.

Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese issued a statement condemning the attack on the synagogue.
“I have zero tolerance for anti-Semitism. It has no place in Australia,” Albanese wrote. “Violence, intimidation and destruction in places of worship is all the rage… Those involved must be caught and face the full force of the law.”

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu also issued a statement condemning it. “A despicable act of anti-Semitism.”
