Patrick Mahomes continues to recover from his ankle injury.

The Kansas City Chiefs’ star quarterback took the field on Saturday. Battling a sprained ankle in a 27-19 win over the Houston Texans, Mahomes passed for 260 yards with one touchdown and one touchdown.

Mahomes was never guaranteed to play after leaving last Sunday’s game against the Cleveland Browns with a sprain. But it didn’t stop him from missing any practice this week, as Mahomes went about his normal routine despite the injury.

The last time Mahomes missed a game due to injury was 2019, when he missed just two games after suffering a dislocated patella against the Denver Broncos.

Head coach Andy Reed told reporters during the week that he was “amazed” by his defender’s ability to return from injury so quickly.

“I’ve been through that with him before. And he amazes me every time he does that,” Reed said. “He’s so mentally tough. It was an attitude he had to deal with. Where was he a few days ago? I would say it was a long shot. He did well with it.”

Mahomes, meanwhile, is under contract and overdelivered on his availability this week. He advised reporters on Tuesday that he wouldn’t play unless he felt he wouldn’t. “Limited game plan” with his injury

“I don’t want to limit the game plan,” Mahomes said. “That’s another thing for me. I want to still be able to move around the pocket so that we’re not sitting in one spot the whole game and chasing good lines, so it’s about me finding that balance and seeing where I’m at. And like I said I won’t know until near the end of this week.”
