Stephen A. Smith and Shannon Sharpe didn’t want to hear the “First Take” from the mouths of two ESPN colleagues.
Smith and Sharpe both addressed comments made by Kirk Herbstreit and Chris Fowler during the College Football Playoff broadcast on Monday’s edition of the popular sports debate show.
And while Smith felt more polished with his answer, Sharpe made it known that he doesn’t care how many ESPN bosses he’ll have to face if he hears the “First Take” shot again.

“I will be a good teammate,” Sharp said to Smith. “I’m going to let it slide, everyone at ESPN, because if you don’t choose the path you take, I will light them up. If we will be on the same team, if we will work in the same network. Don’t do that.
“Kirk, Chris Fowler, I promise you. If you have ever talked about any platform I mention that again. ‘I wonder what negative things they’ll say.’ I promise you, ESPN doesn’t have enough bosses to do it. Stop bothering with what I have to say. Don’t play with me.”
The comments from Herbstreit and Fowler were about Ohio State Buckeyes head football coach Ryan Day, with Smith accusing them of mischaracterizing him for making the call. Fire the coach

“Stop it,” Smith said into the camera as he spoke about the matter. “‘First Take needs to get him fired’. That’s not true. I did it! It’s not ‘First Take’, that’s me, Stephen A. Don’t get me wrong, ‘This guy Ryan Day, if he doesn’t win a national championship, he should go, even with a 66-10 record.’ I don’t. stutter a bit Now I don’t stutter.”
Herbstreit and Fowler were called upon to defeat the Buckeyes’ Tennessee Volunteers to advance to the next round of the playoffs.
As Day led his team to dominant victories, Herbstreit brought with him the “craziness” he felt existed at Ohio State. That came in Dayton after losing to Michigan for the fourth year in a row in their rivalry game.

Herbstreit then moved the conversation to “First Take.”
“’First Take’ tried to fire him,” Herbstreit is heard saying. “They think he’s finished, so I’ll be excited to see what they have to say on Monday after this show. They kicked him out. They are trying to find a replacement. But he’s here. He still wore his hat. He is still coaching.”
At the time, Herbstreit’s comments were very interesting, considering he was talking about a show on his own network.
