Police in Austin, Texas, arrested nine people accused of involvement in four thefts at Target, Kohl’s and Lowe’s this week as part of a shoplifting operation near the city. with Lakeline Mall as holiday shopping gets underway.
In one case, four people were accused of trying to hide unchecked items at Kohl’s in an empty baby stroller.
The suspect left a baby stroller behind when confronted by police outside the store. but was quickly arrested. Austin Police Department stated in the statement
Police seized approximately $1,100 worth of merchandise from the stroller and seized another $1,200 in stolen merchandise from the vehicle.

Melain Gomez, 20, Alexis Garza, 25, Jesus Jimenez-Gomez, 22, and Jessica Gomez, 23, were all charged with one count of engaging in organized criminal activity, a third-degree misdemeanor.
In the second case, a “high-value repeat offender” identified as Javier Rios was arrested after he allegedly walked out of a local Lowe’s home with a flatbed and air conditioner valued at $2,156 that he allegedly did not pay for.
Police also seized a $609 bathing suit found in his car. which he was accused of stealing from another Lowe’s that same day.
Rios was charged with theft and a misdemeanor jail term. He also had two warrants for his arrest for theft.
“It definitely happens more than people think,” said Molly McClanahan, assistant manager of clothing store Hemline Austin. Fox 7 of shoplifting “I think it happens a lot more often in larger stores. Where there is more room to hide or more room to run.”
She said Hemline Austin limits the number of items customers may try on to prevent theft from dressing rooms.

Morales was arrested on suspicion of theft and a misdemeanor in jail. After he was stopped by police, Crystal Overby was accused of driving the vehicle. There is a warrant for her arrest.
