The Peabody Police Department confirmed in a Facebook post that several people were injured when plastic Lego bricks fell from a mezzanine at In the Game arcade in Peabody.

Peabody Fire Chief John Dowling told Fox News Digital they received a call about a partial ceiling collapse at the arcade just after noon.

After arriving at the scene Dowling said the team discovered it wasn’t a collapsed ceiling. But it was a 12-foot-tall Lego display that toppled a group of people during a failed balloon drop on New Year’s Eve.
Dowling said the balloons should be released from the display during the party. And it looks like someone pulled too hard on the balloon on display and it toppled over.

Dowling said 10 people suffered minor injuries. Eight people were sent to hospital for treatment, while two others refused medical transport.
Dowling said that of the eight people treated, three adults and five children, the majority suffered cuts and abrasions.

“We watched all the balloons fall. And didn’t know what happened until we left right after the balloon went down,” Turco explained to WBZ-TV.
“There were big LEGO pieces everywhere, children were crying, there were a lot of people in the office. Some people had ice packs over their heads. And people let their children Steal Lego pieces like they’re souvenirs. It was pure chaos. I had no idea of the actual events until after the incident,” Turko continued.

The arcade was briefly closed for safety reasons after the incident, but it reopened a short time later.
A spokesperson for the arcade told Fox News Digital that they are working with officials while the situation is evaluated.
