From my experience Small talk is one of those life skills that doesn’t get easier the more you practice it. even for me Someone who enjoys talking with people I don’t know well. Getting startled by small talk is always a risk. When I realized I’d misremembered their name or hometown, etc., or us,’ I was speechless halfway across the bathroom at the bar.

My colleague Gilad Edelman has a helpful solution for such times: Go ahead and talk about the weather. “We want to talk about the weather because it’s on our minds. And it stays in our hearts because it matters,” he wrote. “It determines how we dress. The plans we made What will we make for dinner? It doesn’t matter if we get on the plane.” Good small talk, as Gilad noted.
