A former top adviser to Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau gives a bleak outlook on the world leader’s political future. A few days after Donald Trump became president of the United States Named NHL legend Wayne Gretzky as his replacement.

Butts written in Substack Newsletter Freeland’s resignation is a huge blow to the party. And it could mean Trudeau’s political fate is sealed.

“If, as is now widely expected, Mr. Trudeau’s resignation is imminent. The only way forward is through genuine leadership competition,” Butt wrote via canadian newspapers

“If you want to know who can play hockey, Just play a game of hockey. It doesn’t matter who you’re rooting for at this time. We would all have a more seasoned perspective if we saw these guys live.”

Butt served as Trudeau’s general secretary when he won the 2015 election. His strong words came just days after Trump teased Canada over its political turmoil. They even floated Gretzky to replace Trudeau.

“I just left the great Wayne Gretzky as he is known in ice hockey circles. I said, ‘Wayne, why don’t you run for Prime Minister of Canada? Soon to be known as Governor of Canada – you can easily win, you don’t even need to campaign,” Trump wrote in a post on Truth Social.

Since Freeland’s resignation, Trudeau has faced calls to resign. Trump also weighed in on Freeland’s departure.

“It is now clear that the Liberal government is not trusted by parliament. Conservative Party member Quebecois and NDP, which represents the majority of MPs. have all declared that they will vote no confidence in the Liberal government,” Williamson wrote in his letter.
