The New York Jets’ transformation has started from the sideline to the front office this season. Former general manager Joe Douglas was one of the casualties of an unexpected season.
The Jets fired Douglas after the team’s Week 11 loss to the Indianapolis Colts, marking his second firing of the season. After head coach Robert Saleh was fired Clearly, Douglas took the news in stride.

NFL executive close to former Jets GM says The Athletic Douglas feels some “relief” from team owner Woody Johnson’s decision, executives told the outlet Douglas went fishing off the Jersey shore to recalibrate and refresh after a long, difficult season.
“It was the happiest he had heard him in a long time,” the executive said.
Douglas came into the Jets’ organization before the start of the 2019 season. New York is coming off a 4-12 season with Todd Bowles as head coach and is still in the midst of a playoff drought.

The first season was interesting, Adam Gase was hired as head coach while Sam Darnold started his season under center. The Jets started the year 0-4 but salvaged a 7-9 season, but the team still missed the playoffs.
It was chaotic from there. New York went from Darnold to Zach Wilson to Aaron Rodgers as starting quarterback. Gase had two seasons in New York before Robert Saleh replaced him.
New York has not made the playoffs in any season with Douglas as GM. The Jets have not made the playoffs since 2010, making it their second consecutive AFC Championship Game at that time.
