The National Football League cracks down on celebrations that might look like gunfire. But Patrick Mahomes seems to have missed the memo.
The Kansas City Chiefs quarterback is one of the latest to use his arms to celebrate a touchdown. And it affected his wallet.
NFL Network reports that Mahomes was fined more than $14,000 for what the league called “a violation of the law”. “Serious gesture”

Many players have been penalized and fined because they would use celebrations even though they were innocent in the first place.
Last month, the league became “concerned” about the number of celebrations. “Gun-related” offenses earned them stricter penalties.
According to Spotrac, the NFL has paid 17 fines for “obscene gestures” this season – there will be no such fines in 2023.

“(The rules) have been on the books for many years. And it didn’t really show up… Didn’t notice much until this year,” said one league executive. told CBS Sports last month “It’s almost their epidemic now.”
“We don’t think it’s appropriate… It sends the wrong message,” NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell added at the time.

The adjustment added insult to injury for Mahomes, as his Chiefs suffered their first loss of the season after winning their first nine games.
