Politics in 2024 is a story to watch. And it will become more and more difficult. last year The current climate is one of fear. uncertainty and a never-ending wave of corruption through our highest systems. That’s probably a big part of why Metaphor: ReFantazio has become so popular with its epic journey of ordinary people overcoming broken systems to unite the world on the path to a better tomorrow. Maybe it’s because the game is fun, stylish, and has an amazing story even outside of that context.
This time, the newly founded Studio Zero ventured from normal modern society into a fantasy setting, and good for them. Because they became incredibly talented. Metaphor: ReFantazio presents a beautiful world filled with magic. Fighting races, interesting Steampunk machines, and tons of monsters (some more “human” than others), there’s also an amazing cast of main characters and supporting characters. Many of which have become contenders of the year for many players.
It also feels like one of the strongest expressions of the Persona team’s unique RPG style. The Archetypes that serve as the “Persona” system in this game are basically character classes. But it can be equipped and swapped with any character that normally only the protagonist can do. It creates a strategy that can be changed on the fly as you learn what combinations you need to defeat your opponent.
The challenges of this game are amazing and make it a great journey. Leveling up Confidante, chasing bounties, taking part in side missions, and more ensures you’ll have plenty to do before the credits run out. However, even if you skip a lot of that, You are on a journey of ups and downs and strong emotions. As these unlikely heroes attempt to overcome the overwhelming forces that have brought them down, And it certainly has a stellar soundtrack. We don’t know if Studio Zero intends to be politically charged in an election year, but Metaphor: ReFantazio is some of the best gameplay and style we’ve seen all year. All of these factors together make the game our pick for Shacknews Best RPG of 2024.
