After a disastrous end to the loss to the Detroit Lions on Thursday. chicago bears Head coach Matt Eberflus has left after just three seasons.
Eberflus, 54, becomes the first head coach in Bears history to be fired mid-season, according to reports, with offensive coordinator Thomas Brown taking over as interim head coach.
“This morning, after meeting with (Chairman) George (H. McCaskey) and (Chairman and CEO) Kevin (Warren), we informed Matt of the decision. It is our mission to move in a different direction with the leadership of our football team and head coach,” Bears General Manager Ryan Poles said. Said in a statement, “I would like to thank Matt for his hard work. professionalism and dedication to our organization We appreciate his commitment to the Chicago Bears and wish him and his family the best moving forward.”

“I support Ryan and the decision made this morning. We understand the necessity of the head coach’s role in building and maintaining a championship caliber team. leading our players and organization,” Warren added. “Our fans have stood with us and endured through every challenge. And they deserve better results. Our organizational structure and operations are strong, focused, aligned and dynamic for the future.”
Friday’s announcement came shortly after Eberflus spoke with reporters on Friday. He stated that he expects to stay with the team despite the Bears’ brutal loss to lion on Thanksgiving, adding that he was focused on preparing for the team’s Week 14 matchup with the San Francisco 49ers.
“I’m just going to try to finish this game. And it does a good job of evaluating that. Report after our actions like we always do,” he told NFL.com. “And then I’ll work into it.
