It’s a film that makes me stop and reflect on how I spend my time in between.
German filmmaker Wim Wenders is also behind this meditative style. The gentle and mysterious protector at the center of the story. Hirayama led something of a monastic existence. He slept on a thin mattress. On the floor of his tiny apartment, he wakes up at the crack of dawn each day, waters his plants, pauses to contemplate the sky. Then get into the van to go to the first bathroom. Hirayama is more than just an introvert. He hardly ever speaks. Outside of this, however, he is a Renaissance man. What’s so amazing about this film is that it demands your full attention in a way that many modern films fail to do. If you watch the meme scroll for even a minute You’ll miss a lot of the little details. Scenes are revealed in soft, natural light. and dozens of soft, loud sounds like the trimming of a mustache, the brushing of teeth, the rattle of keys. Even though the film takes place in the present day, But Hirayama doesn’t use a smartphone or appear to have any connection to the internet, so his concentration is no different from the rest of us. Whenever someone interrupts the cleaning process to use the restroom He would step outside and look at the flickering shadows instead of mindlessly flicking his fingers across his phone. When he eats lunch in the park He would watch the wind blowing through the leaves of the trees. At night he reads books before going to bed. And then I dream of my own day. His life may seem lonely. But it looks more interesting than the others. Millions of people are very productive on Instagram.
Rest assured that actual plot and tension will eventually find its way into the film (we gradually learn that Hirayama’s life is far from Zen And there are still people who want to join him.) However, at its core, perfect day It’s still a small movie. That’s a refreshing look at nothing. Which raises some big questions: How do we find meaning in everyday life? How can we reconcile our fear of the unknown with our knowledge that everything will change? In that regard, how concerned should we be with the above truth? With waking up and living each day? Some of the answers, or at least some clues, appear to be hidden in the lyrics of Hirayama’s song choices.
This week is a good time to take stock of what you really want. for satisfaction Sometimes it takes stopping. Take a step back and heavy breathing Sometimes you can find the clarity you need in a book, song, or movie. perfect day It is a vehicle for all of the above. It’s also a great way to spend a couple of hours. “Next time, next time,” Hirayama tells visiting family members when they go cycling. “Now is now”
