Microsoft quietly confirms it is scrapping avatars Xbox One and the Xbox Series X/S console next year after a decade of support. You might think that the Avatars had been killed off in the past, but no, they were apparently still around, but not for long.
Xbox avatars were introduced way back in the Xbox 360 era. during Major updates made in 2008– and in recent years Microsoft has really pushed these digital avatars. It lets you buy clothes and use them in games and apps. as well as making it a prominent feature on the console’s dashboard. But by the time the Xbox One arrived in 2013, avatars had been pushed aside. And in the past few years (and after several Xbox updates) avatars are hard to find. Hardly visible on dashboard and feels like a souvenir of different eras And from next year onwards These will all be removed.
As seen. Game SpotMicrosoft has updated Support page for Xbox avatars and confirmed that on January 9, 2025, they will be removed from Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S consoles. You will no longer see your avatar on your profile page after this date.
Microsoft says that “due to low engagement,” the avatar has been removed and so will the Xbox Avatar Editor app, so if you want your avatar to be your profile picture, You have until January to do so.
Players who made purchases for Xbox Avatar on Xbox One or Series X/S starting November 1, 2023 will receive a refund for those purchases.
Microsoft clarified that this change will not affect Xbox 360 avatars, which are officially known as “Xbox Original Avatars.” Those will continue to be available in supported games and apps.
