Writer Gurwinder Bhogal revealed on CNN during an interview that he spoke with Luigi Mangione for two hours. Several months before the murder, UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson said Mangione alluded to his frustration with the U.S. healthcare system.
CNN’s Erin Burnett asked Bhogal about a video call he had with Mangione in May. Burnett said the timing was important because it was right before Mangione “comes off the grid” in July.
Mangione was arrested for Thompson’s murder at a McDonald’s in Pennsylvania. Thompson was shot and killed outside a hotel in Manhattan.
“I mean, there are some things that make a little more sense. But I mean I can’t say I could really predict his behavior from that. On that video call, you know, he talked about his frustrations with the American healthcare system. We had a brief exchange. which they compare He said the U.S. healthcare system It is very expensive,” Bogal said.

“I told him about the NHS because it is here in the UK. We have a free healthcare system. And he appears to be praising the UK’s healthcare system. And I told him it wasn’t easy. Because even though it’s great, I’m still, I’m a big fan of universal health care. I say it’s not that easy because we have a huge waiting list in the UK. So, you know, there are some trade-offs. The UK system is better than the US system. And he agrees with that,” Bogal added.
Bhogal also talked about other matters. That he also remembered about Mangione from their conversation.
“He is very concerned about online pornography. Like he believes that many men don’t go out and meet women because they are addicted to porn. He is very worried about video games. He believed that people were not successful. They don’t get things done in the real world because they get dopamine from video games,” Bogal said.

Bhogal said Mangione is concerned about the impact social media has on people.
“And he is afraid this will happen to him as well. And one of the topics of conversation, I mean, was that he wanted my advice on how he could reclaim some of that agency,” he said.

Many on the left celebrated Thompson’s death and praised Mangione as a hero.
Former Washington Post reporter Taylor Lawrence told Piers Morgan during the interview said she was “happy” to respond to Thompson’s death. She backtracks later in the conversation. But said she felt no sympathy for his murder.
