Boxer Angela Carini won her eighth Italian women’s title on Sunday. It’s a comeback after withdrawing from a controversial rival at the Paris Olympics.
“Tonight was my revenge,” Carini told reporters after the match, via The Telegraph. This comes a few months after she was beaten in front of a worldwide audience by an athlete who was questioned about her biological sex.
Carini, 26, withdrew from a fight with Algerian boxer Imane Khelif in Paris after receiving several violent blows to the head. Khelif’s inclusion in the Olympics is the biggest dispute. of the Paris Games after the Algerian failed a gender qualification test to compete in other international women’s boxing competitions.

Kelif has been disqualified from the 2023 International Boxing Association (IBA) World Championships and IBA President Umar Kremlev said the boxer has an “XY chromosome” which is associated with male birth.

“I went into the ring to fight,” Carini said in Paris, via Italy’s ANSA, “I didn’t give up. But one punch hurt too much. And I said, ‘That’s enough’.”

Clef threatened to sue a French journalist again in November over reports alleging the boxer had testicles.
“We will meet the French journalist in court,” the Algerian athlete said on NDTV.
Carini previously said she wanted to “apologise” to Clef for the withdrawal which brought negative attention to Algerians.
“All this conflict makes me sad,” Carini told the BBC. “I apologize to my opponent if the IOC says she can fight. I respect that decision.”
Carini coldly gave Cliff a cold shoulder after the fight and said she was sorry.
“It wasn’t something I set out to do,” Carini said. “Actually, I want to apologize to her and everyone else. I was angry because my Olympics had burned down.”
Still, Carini felt some sense of “revenge” had surfaced on Sunday.
