Biden has delegated authority to the secretary of state. “To direct the disbursement of up to $571.3 million for Department of Defense supplies and services. and military education and training. to provide assistance to Taiwan,” the White House said in a statement. Taiwan’s Defense Ministry thanked the United States for its “solid security guarantees,” saying in a statement: The two sides will continue to work closely on security issues to ensure peace in the Taiwan Strait.

The Pentagon said the State Department has approved the sale of command, control, communications and computer modernization equipment to Taiwan, valued at approximately $265 million.
Taiwan’s Ministry of Defense said the equipment sale would help upgrade its command and control system.
