It’s fair to say the 13-1 Kansas City Chiefs shouldn’t be what their record is – but that’s just fuel on the fire for two straight champions.
Of course, the Chiefs won many games on their last possession. And the ball bounced many times. Both literally and figuratively.
But Chiefs safety Justin Reid is thanking those who wondered what the Chiefs could do in the playoffs.

“Thank you for the motivation. We appreciate the motivation people have given us,” Reed told Fox News Digital in a recent interview. “Despite winning the championship 2 times in a row. Even though they said everything last year. But they still didn’t believe it. And we appreciate it. It gets us excited when we hear it. I like the extra motivation. It excites me,” and it drives me to go out there and prove a point.
“They don’t have to (learn), we’ll just keep showing up.”
Reid won two Super Bowls with the Chiefs, but his ring in February wasn’t the only championship he won this year. He also took home the Chess.com BlitzChamps title.
Red has always been interested in chess. But he took chess more seriously when he entered the NFL, and now chess is a staple in the locker room.
“We have a tradition where we play every night before the game. As soon as we finished our team meeting I’ll have a chess board sitting at my locker, friends come over and we play a quick five-minute game, guys from the front desk come down, the players play, and if you win, you stay, if you lose, you go back in line,” Reed said.

With added security, it turned out to be a mix of superstition and pre-game brainstorming.
“You can’t always go too deep. It’s nice to take your focus off one thing and move on to something else. I think it’s fun for that. And it’s become a little tradition that we tend to do that now,” he said.
NFL Films will release a documentary about Reid’s chess name and how other NFL stars got involved. The name also allows Red to raise money for his own charity.
“Everyone uses the same thing. ‘It’s a game of chess,’ whether it’s football, business, whatever’s going on,” Reed said, adding that it’s a great way for people to connect. “It’s how to use strategy and be three steps ahead of your opponent. It’s fun that they promote it. I think it’s good. And I think it’s a fun game for everyone to play.”
Reid faces off against former Houston teammate Texans on Saturday afternoon Meanwhile, the Chiefs are in the final stages. And considering he is the reigning champion in a row. He knows what it takes to bring home the Lombardi Trophy again.

“You want to play your best football in the playoffs. And we don’t feel like we’re playing our best football, yeah, which is great,” Reed said. “There’s still a way to go. There is still work to be done to get better, just not being satisfied and preparing each week. The body will take care of itself. But whoever has a ready mind and does not commit those mental mistakes when The pressure will increase. We’ve been here before. We will continue to do it.”
