Caitlin Clark reveals the moment ‘Welcome to the W’ when she was injured early in the 2024 season

Caitlin Clark’s WNBA rookie season was a record one. But she also remembers the moment she knew she was in pro ball.

Her “Welcome to the WNBA” moment.

Clark appeared on a recent “New Heights” podcast with Travis and Jason Kelce and was asked about a time when she was welcomed by a WNBA player.

She knew the answer immediately.

“Someone is covering my screen. And I hit my ear so perfectly against the girl that my eardrum shattered, and it shattered,” Clark said of her Fever game against the New York Liberty on June 2. “I knew right away because I had done it before. (while tubing on the lake) It hurt so much… That was my welcome to the W moment.”

Clark said even her ear wasn’t bleeding. But her hearing hasn’t been the same for a few weeks.

“It takes months to heal,” Clark added. “After the season ends The doctor had to go back and forth to see if it closed, and if it didn’t, you had to do a little procedure. But luckily it closed, so I’m… good.”

Liberty’s 104-68 loss to the Fever was Clark’s 11th game of her rookie season.

The injury occurred during the fourth quarter of the explosion. And Clark caught the attention of the trainer on the bench. before having to walk back to the locker room at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

Clark missed the remaining games.

“I don’t want to explain it. It could have been terrible, but no, I feel good,” Clark told reporters at the time of his injury. “I can’t hear anything out of one ear.”

Injuries did not prevent Clark from breaking a number of records. Including the most assists in a season.

Clark was named Time’s Athlete of the Year and the WNBA’s 2024 Rookie of the Year. She was also named a WNBA All-Star for the first time.
