Cher explains why she’s unsure about her future with Gregg Allman


Cher is looking back on her second marriage. And what happened?

The singer discussed her relationship with Gregg Allman in her bestselling book “Cher: The Memoir, Part One” and why she said “I do” so quickly.

According to the book, Cher’s divorce from her ex-husband Sonny Bono was finalized in June 1975, when she began dating the rocker.

Now 78, she admits she had some reservations about her blossoming romance with the Allman Brothers Band singer.

Cher’s confession of Sony Bono’s marriage reminded them of murder and suicide in their darkest times.

“I don’t know if my relationship with Gregory will last,” the actress wrote as quoted. People Magazine on wednesday

“I was taking each day as it came,” she recalls, “and then I found out I was pregnant. And so we decided to get married.”

According to reports, Cher wants to get married if she has children.

“I just put one foot in front of the other,” Cher wrote, according to the outlet. “The future is never written in stone. I did what I thought was the right thing to do.”

The book notes that Cher’s sister Georganne “Gee” and her friend Paulette looked up to the singer. “It was as if I had entered another universe” after telling them she was ready to get married. Cher responded, “Come on, let’s do this.”

The outlet noted that the wedding took place just days after Cher’s divorce from Bono.

“There was nothing romantic about our wedding day,” the Oscar winner admits.

“(I) told him on the phone, ‘I’m so tired of doing this, Gregory, I’m so tired of going to rehab with you,’” she recalled, according to the outlet. “He was quiet on the other end of the phone. ‘But I’ll go on,’ he said softly.”

“His answer stopped me in my tracks because it was so true,” Cher continued. “He went on to rehab. Try to keep it clean. Keep trying despite past failures. during that time Instead of thinking about your own fatigue I sympathize with him.”

Cher wrote that her “breaking point” came after Allman experienced “paranoia” one night.

“(He) insisted he saw a man with a gun in the backyard,” the Grammy winner wrote.

“Greg doesn’t like to talk about Cher a lot,” says Paul. “People attribute that to not liking her. aggressive towards her or something I don’t believe that is the case. I think it’s the opposite.”

Paul said that looking at their marriage, It was clear that the couple was not prepared for what was to come.

“Gregg was a complete drug addict at the time. And he is struggling to overcome it,” he explains. “He has been in and out of rehab many times. He had moments when he was able to overcome it. He talks about that very openly. Even though she had been in Hollywood and been a celebrity since she was 16 or 17 years old, she was rather naive. She doesn’t understand what it means.”

“At one point Greg was just in a relationship. He said to her, ‘Let’s go home. Pretend this is a trip to Disneyland. It was fun while they were together. Now go home,’” Paul said. “He couldn’t tell himself he was a drug addict. Cher felt frustrated, angry, and completely blown away. In her mind, everything was going well. Basically, she was like, ‘What’s going on here?’”

Paul accused Allman of He “cried for nearly an hour” before he mustered up the courage to tell her. “I’m a junkie.”

“The good news is, I’m crazy about you. But the bad news is I have a problem,” he told her.

Cher, who was accused of “not caring,” said, “It’s OK. We can get over it.”

“You don’t understand,” he pleaded, “I’m going to steal your mother’s TV.”

Paul claims Cher is confident this is an obstacle they can overcome together.

“Her reaction was like, ‘It’s OK, it’s a problem and we’re going to fix it,’” he explains. “She understands it’s a problem. But she thinks it’s something you need to see a doctor for. go to physical therapy Then the symptoms will improve. She doesn’t understand… And Greg spoke openly about that.. From the beginning the relationship was overshadowed by his drug use.”

Cher’s Memoirs Part 2 is slated for publication in 2025.
