A Washington, D.C. committee tasked with investigating bribery allegations against City Councilman Trayon White Sr. voted Monday to recommend that the lawmaker be fired for allegedly accepting more than $150,000 in bribes.
The board voted unanimously to recommend that White be fired. After examining the report it was found that “Substantial evidence” shows that council members violated the D.C. Code of Ethics while in office.
After the vote, D.C. Council President Phil Mendelson issued a statement regarding the committee’s decision.
“Let’s get into some legal jargon: Trayon White is accused of accepting bribes,” Mendelson said. “Prosecutors have established probable cause. Our own independent investigation found significant evidence that he accepted bribes. and civil servants are not allowed to accept bribes. This is major corruption.

“There is only one solution. That is to remove corruption from our body,” the council member later added. “This incident undermines the public trust needed for government to function well. Anything less than a dismissal will not resolve the situation.”

In response to the accusations An ad hoc council committee has commissioned an independent investigation. It is managed by the law firm Latham and Watkins LLP.

The report was submitted to the council last week. and includes in-depth analysis along with 29 supporting exhibits, FOX 5 in D.C. reports.
After reviewing documents, interviews, emails, and messages Investigators found that “Substantial evidence shows that Councilor White violated Council rules and several provisions of the Official Code of Conduct.”
Investigators specifically said: White accepted cash from business owners in exchange for agreeing to meet and influence government officials who approved their contracts, the station reported.

The report also claims that White has ledgers detailing the profits he intends to earn. This included a kickback of 3% of the scholarship he helped renew.
Mendelson and White did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital’s request for comment.
The station reported that White said before Monday’s meeting, “I want to say that there is no clear evidence that no one in all the interviews said I was trying to get them, so I am confident in that.”
The council needs a five-sixth vote to vote to expel. which is the most severe punishment Action on the dismissal will take place within 45 days, during which time White will be able to defend himself.

White’s trial on federal bribery charges is scheduled to begin in January 2026. He faces up to 15 years in prison if convicted.
