Day 14 of the 2024 Space Telescope Advent Calendar: Starry Sky About 12,000 light-years away, the open cluster Westerland 1 resides behind an enormous cloud of interstellar gas and dust. Westerland 1, seen in this James Webb Space Telescope image, is an impressive example of a superstar cluster. It consists of hundreds of very massive stars. Some shine as brightly as nearly 1 million suns, and others are up to 2,000 times larger than the sun (as large as the orbit of Saturn). this Our night sky will be filled with hundreds of stars as bright as a full moon.
