After 58 years of marriage Dolly Parton And husband Carl Thomas Dean knows a thing or two about compromise and maintaining a healthy relationship.
During the appearance on Bunnie Xo’s “Dumb Blonde” PodcastThe 78-year-old country music icon opened up about her unique bond with Dean. and explain how they avoid arguments within their relationship.
“He is quiet and I am loud. And we’re so funny,” she told Jelly Roll’s Wife on the podcast. “Oh, he’s hilarious. And I think one of the things that has made it last all these years is that we love each other (and) we respect each other. But we had so much fun. Every time[there was]too much tension. Any one of us likes it. Find something funny about it to relieve tension. We will not let it go that far.”

“We never fought back and forth,” she added. “And now I’m glad we never did. Because when you start that That becomes a lifelong thing. I’ve seen it with a lot of people. And I thought ‘I never started that.’ I couldn’t stand the thought that he would say something that I couldn’t accept…because I’m so sensitive to other people and myself.”
They have been married since 1966. Parton met with the dean. At the laundromat when she was 18 and he was 21.
Even though Dean is Parton’s biggest supporter, he’s kept it out of the spotlight over the years.

“He loved music, but he wasn’t interested in it at all. And he told me ahead of time,” she told Bunnie Xo.

“I asked him to come with me in 1967. We married in 1966. That’s when I won my first BMI award for song of the year (“Put it Off Until Tomorrow”) and I rented him a tuxedo. Then he begged him to go, and he did. He was upset all night.”

When they returned home, Parton said Dean “immediately started packing up his things.”
“He said, ‘Look, now I want you to do whatever you want to do. And I wish you the best. But don’t ask me to go do any of this shit again, because I’m not going to.’ And he never did,” she said.

“We just respect that. And I respected that because I didn’t know he would feel that uncomfortable. But he doesn’t even like going outside. Go to a big dinner or something,” she added.
The “Jolene” crooner says their different interests have brought them closer together.
“He is a homely person. And that worked well for us,” she said. “I don’t know anyone who uses astrology or is interested in that. But he’s a Cancer. As for me, Capricorn And that’s a compatible sign. He likes to go to different places. If we are driving across the country Or if we had already planned it, but little boy, he can’t wait to get home.”
“He wants to stay home. And by nature I am a gypsy,” she added. “I just love going and I love seeing what else is out there. But I think… That works well for us.”
