“I don’t. I don’t have the sole authority to appoint anyone,” Henyard said. “When you say, ‘Hey, it was neglected,’ you are neglecting your duty as an elected official.”

The area is still reeling from the controversial Democratic caucus, in which state Sen. Napoleon Harris replaced Henyard at the top of the ticket.

Henyard responded to the change by declaring: “We have not had a chance to be heard” and “On December 3, 2024, your right to vote was hijacked by your committee member, Sen. Napoleon Harris.”

Harris disputed this narrative when he spoke to ABC7.

“No one has been denied entry. Everything is done on the ship,” he said. “We must respect the rule of law.”

Henyard again disputed this change, declaring to the same news agency that “I am history I am the history of the 21st century,” Henyard said. “I am your Rosa Parks, your Harriet Tubman (sic), I am that person. Someone must say never. never give up”

The lockdown has taken a toll on residents like Tom Olejniczak, who showed up early Wednesday morning to submit paperwork for a relief project.
