ESPN college football analyst Kirk Herbstreit called for dramatic consequences for the players involved in a handful of flag battles over the weekend.
At least three games saw altercations occur with players attempting to plant flags on the opponent’s field. The fourth fight occurred during the Arizona State-Arizona game as a Sun Devils player attempted to plant a pitchfork at midfield.

The Big Ten Conference announced $100,000 fines for Michigan and Ohio State after the melee, but Herbstreit wants suspensions for those involved in the fracas.
“I think any conference commissioner whose team or teams are involved in postgame scrimmages owes it to his conference and CFB’s THE SPORT to study film closely. and seat anyone involved as an aggressor to help de-escalate the situation,” Herbstreit wrote on X.

“Seat those involved for the next game. Whether it’s a bowl game or a playoff game. These people must suffer the consequences – for their own sake!”
North Carolina and North Carolina State players and Florida and Florida State players have been fighting over separate flags.

Any suspension may affect the respective school’s bowl game. Arizona and Florida State are the only schools without at least six wins. Therefore, they are ineligible to play in postseason bowl games.
