Nebraska’s Republican governor, Jim Pillen, was in the ICU at a hospital on Monday. to receive treatment for injuries After he was thrown from his horse while riding with his family the other day.
Pillen, 68, was admitted to the Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska, where he was being treated for a spleen that was injured when he rode a new horse.
Doctors said Pillain’s prognosis was positive. Even though he had 7 broken ribs and a partially collapsed lung, slightly broken spine and a minor kidney injury that is expected to heal on its own. He is expected to remain in the hospital for at least another day. But his condition has stabilized.
The governor underwent a minimally invasive procedure called prophylactic embolization for a splenic injury. Doctors inserted a wire into his artery near his spleen. and inserted a stent to stop the bleeding, according to Hillman Terzian, a trauma surgeon at Nebraska Medicine.

Terzian said Pillen did well during surgery. He had to be calm because of this. The operation took less than an hour, and Lt. Gov. Joe Kelly acted as then-governor in a routine transfer of power.

No other surgery is planned. Doctors, though, have options for saving his ribs, Terzian said.

The governor’s office said his injuries were serious. But it is not life-threatening. And it could be much worse.

Pillen was elected governor in 2022, running in that year’s gubernatorial election. This is because former Governor Pete Ricketts, also a Republican, is term-limited.
The provincial governor previously worked as a veterinarian and owned a livestock business. Elected to the state’s highest office.
