New York Governor Kathy Hochul came under fire on social media on Sunday. After making claims about how safe the New York City subway system is, Thanks to her efforts It came just hours after a woman was set on fire and burned to death on a train.
In an X post on Sunday, Hochul claimed that crime on the Big Apple railroad has decreased since she deployed the National Guard in March. last week Hochul sent 750 National Guard members onto the subway in an effort to control holiday crime.
“In March I worked to make our subways safer for the millions of people who ride them each day,” Hochul’s post read. @NationalGuardNY To support the safety efforts of @NYPDnews and @MTA and add cameras to every subway car. Crime has decreased. And the number of passengers increased.”
Hochul’s post came about eight hours after an immigrant from Guatemala was accused of setting a woman on fire and watching her burn to death on the F train in Brooklyn, a gruesome crime. It received widespread coverage when the governor’s tweets were published.

The incident happened at the Stilwell Avenue Station at approximately 7:30 a.m., according to the New York City Police Department (NYPD).
Many social media users responded to Hochul’s tweet with graphic images of the cremation. The tweet also had an X community note attached to it, referencing the killing.
Melissa DeRosa, who served as secretary under former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, spoke about the governor’s position. and said another person had been murdered.
“Two people died on the subway today,” DeRosa wrote. “The governor of New York was a tourist who couldn’t even read the newspaper while she was in the city.”

Advocacy group AntiSemitism called out the governor’s communications staff, writing that Hochul “needs a new social media team.”
Lori Mills, vice chair of the Ventura County Republican Party, also responded to the timely tweet.
“You must have missed today’s news,” Mills said bluntly to Hochul.
Sources identified Fox News Digital’s Person of Interest as 33-year-old Sebastin Zapeta, who said he entered the United States from Guatemala about a year ago. But it is unclear whether he did so legally or illegally.
