“The battlefield is really being laid out to our advantage. There are 14 Democrats holding seats held by Donald Trump, and only 3 Republican seats held by Kamala Harris. That tells me we’re going to be on the offensive. ” National Republican Congressional Committee Chairman Richard Hudson emphasized in a recent Fox News Digital interview.

Republicans also flipped control of the Senate from Democrats. And even if they lose a net two seats in the 435-member parliament, they will hold a fragile 220-215 majority when the new parliament convenes next month.

That was eight years ago when Trump first won the White House and the GOP held a majority in the House. Democrats targeted about two dozen Republicans in the 2018 midterms in districts Trump lost in the 2016 election.

in the blue wave elections Democrats were able to successfully flip their majority in the House.

Fast forward eight years. And it’s a different story. Because this time Republicans will have to defend friendly turf seats in districts held by the president-elect.

“There is a lot of opportunity for us to be aggressive,” said Hudson, who has represented a congressional district in central North Carolina for decades.

Hudson also addressed the case that House Republicans will be targeted again by Democrats in the upcoming election cycle. “Really battle-tested, I mean, these are people who have been through fires before. They’ve been through it many times before.’ Millions of dollars are now being spent fighting them.”

“They were able to succeed because they worked very hard in their district. They have built a very strong brand. As you know People who know how to get things done and deliver for their communities,” he stressed. “Republicans in tough seats are our best candidates.”

But there will be a big difference in 2026: Trump, who helped push less likely voters to participate in this year’s elections. It will not be on the ballot in the 2026 midterms.

“I definitely want him to vote. Because he becomes a voter who doesn’t vote for other candidates,” Hudson acknowledged.

But he argued that “If you look at how this competition is shaping up. We campaigned on key issues of what we promised to deliver. If we hand those things over and give them to Donald. Trump was there with us campaigning with our candidate. I believe we can drive out a higher percentage of those voters than we have in past midterms.”

Hudson said Trump “Excellent partnership” with House of Representatives this year And it will happen again in the upcoming election cycle.

“(Trump) cares deeply about having a majority in the House. Because he understood that a majority in the House of Representatives meant that his agenda would be halted. So he was very involved. It has been a very good partnership for us in these recent elections. And I predict that Proceed.”
