The Jacksonville Jaguars may miss their duel with the Houston Texans on Sunday. But the players made sure they had a chance after a powerful attack brought down defender Trevor Lawrence.
Lawrence suffered a concussion when he was hit in the head and neck by Texans linebacker Azeez Al-Shaair. Lawrence slipped during a scramble when Al-Shaair came in and cracked him.
The clash sparked a brief standoff. And it ended with Jarrian. Al-Sharair and Jaguars defender Jones were ejected from the game. Jaguars tight end Evan Engram was also penalized for unnecessary roughness.

Engram called Al-Sha’ir’s hits “dirty” and he felt he had to protect Lawrence at the time.
“It was just instinct,” he said via Jaguar website– “It didn’t feel like a clean hit. So I followed him. I saw him slip Then I saw the hit. I just know it’s wrong. I know it was a dirty play.”
Jaguars defenseman Josh Allen-Hines didn’t like the game either. He did not say whether al-Sha’ir should be suspended.
“That was a stupid attack on his part,” Allen-Hines said. Via ESPN– “In the end He just plays football, but again, the way we change our playing rules. We will overlook these things.”
SAM DARNOLD helps the Vikings to their 10th win of the season with victory over the Cardinals.
“We talk about these things. We know how to play football. A few years ago That would be very popular. But right now that’s not a good play for him. I’m not going to sit there and Say he deserves to be suspended?
Jaguars head coach Doug Pederson said the incident was “A play that no one wants to see in our league,” he said, adding that he expects the NFL to issue fines for those involved in close combat.
Texans head coach DeMeco Ryans bemoans Al-Shaair’s offense
“It’s a pity about Azeez’s attack,” he said in passing. Talk about professional football– “That’s not what we’re coaching. We want to be smart in everything we do and not hurt the team… We just have to be smarter when defenders are relegated. It was an unfortunate play. It does not represent anyone. Aziz is a smart player and a really great leader for us. We feel his presence is not there. His loss really affected us defensively.
“It’s not what we’re coaching. I don’t want to see the melee and all its aftermath. It’s not who we are It does not represent us. I will speak with Azeez, speak to him personally and we will move forward from it.”
