Medical examiner identifies victim who died in Wisconsin Christian school shooting


A teenage student and substitute teacher were killed during a shooting at a Christian school in Madison, Wisconsin, on Monday. Identification has been received. as new details have been revealed about the accused shooter.

The Dane County Medical Examiner shared a report Wednesday with Fox News Digital and identified Rubi Patricia Vergara, a 14-year-old student, and Erin M. West, a 42-year-old teacher, as the victims in the shooting at Abundant Life Christian School. School .

Reports say West, from Deforest, and Vergara, from Madison, were both pronounced dead at the scene. And the results of the preliminary examination confirmed that both died from “Firearm-Related Injuries from Homicide”

The report also names the accused gunman as 15-year-old Natalie “Samantha” L. Rupnow, who was pronounced dead at the scene. “Firearm related injuries”

The medical examiner said further tests are still being conducted.

“These deaths remain under investigation by the Madison Police Department. and the Dane County Medical Examiner’s Office. No further information will be released at this time,” the report said.

According to the obituary news report Vergara is a freshman at Abundant Life Christian School and is described as “An avid reader, lover of the arts, and sings and plays keyboard in the family worship band.”

Vergara’s aunt told Fox News Digital that this has been a “difficult week” for their family. And they’re trying to get through her granddaughter’s funeral. It is scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday in Madison.

The Madison Police Department confirmed to Fox News Digital that two guns were recovered from the school after the shooting, however Rupnow is accused of using only one gun.

During a press conference Tuesday afternoon, Madison Police Chief Shon Barnes said “identifying a motive is our top priority.” He said the motive appeared to be a combination of factors. But he gave no further details.

“Every child, every single person in that building was a victim and will always be a victim. We have to figure it out and try to piece together what exactly happened,” Barnes said.

The police also When talking with Rupnow’s father and other family members, who cooperated and searched Rupnow’s home, Barnes said. He declined to provide further details about the gunman. Part of it is an act of respect for family.

“He lost someone as well,” Barnes said of Rupnow’s father. “So we will not rush the information. We will take our time and make sure we do our due diligence.”

Barnes added that two students remain in serious condition and have life-threatening injuries. One teacher and three students were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Two of those people have since been released, Barnes said.

James and Rebekah Smith, whose 17-year-old daughter is a student at Abundant Life Christian School, told Fox News they know all of the victims and their families.

The Smiths said their daughter was not in the same class as Rupnow, the accused gunman. or knew her well, but said Rupnow was new to the school and was enrolled during the current semester.

They added that their daughter and her group of friends said they had never seen Rupnow speak to anyone at school.

Rebekah Smith said the slain teacher had a daughter who played sports with the Smiths’ daughter, and they talked to the mother at games all the time.

She added that the victim had been a long-time substitute teacher at the school. and just became a full-time teacher this year.
