Brad Simpson, husband of missing Texas real estate broker Susan Simpson. Still jailed for killing the 51-year-old mother of four, his longtime business partner was formally charged this week in the investigation.
James “Val” Cotter was indicted by a grand jury Monday on charges of tampering with evidence with intent to impair an investigation and possession of a prohibited weapon. According to Bexar County Jail records. CAT has reported.
Cotter, Brad Simpson’s long-time friend and business partner, is accused of hiding Simpson’s gun after they exchanged gunfire. Set of ominous messages On October 8th, just two days after his wife disappeared. And before Simpson was arrested on Oct. 8, 9.

“If you are in Bandera Can you please pull over and meet me at my house?” Simpson is accused of texting, according to the affidavit. “I don’t have much time.”
Cotter replied: “I’ll be there in 40 minutes,” Simpson wrote back, “OK, make sure to leave everything in the station, especially the gun.”
“Sorry for the urgency. But you’re all I got Especially right now…social media is destroying me,” Simpson added.
Later that same day, Cotter texted Simpson, “Come here!! I won’t tell anyone,” followed by the message. “You are my brother.”

Cotter is accused of hiding Simpson’s AK-47 in a wall of his home. As specified by officials police said Firearms that have been converted into “machine guns” are not properly registered.
Cotter was arrested on Oct. 10, 2021 and charged with tampering with evidence and possession of a prohibited weapon, both Class III felonies. He was released from custody last month. After his bond was reduced from $1 million to $100,000, local media reported.
He cannot have contact with Brad Simpson or possess any firearms. And he was fitted with a GPS tracker as a condition of his bond.
Authorities said his case is related to the investigation into the disappearance of Susan Simpson.

Susan disappear on Oct., records show, on Sept. 6 after allegedly arguing with her husband of 22 years in front of their home in Olmos Park in the San Antonio area. Her body has not yet been recovered, though. But officials believe Simpson “Intentionally and intentionally caused the death of Susan” on or about Sunday, Oct. 6,” according to the indictment.

Neighbors reportedly saw Simpson attack his wife the night she disappeared. Screams were later heard coming from the nearby woods, while the couple’s 5-year-old child told a school counselor that on the evening of Oct. 1, Sept. 6, her father had been accused of “Push your mother against the wall. hit her mother in the face and attacked his mother’s elbow in their home,” and also “turned off his mother’s phone because they were arguing,” according to the affidavit.
On Nov. 7, Brad was charged with Susan’s murder.

Dec. 1. On Sept. 3, a Bexar County grand jury indicted Simpson on two counts. first degree misdemeanor – Homicide and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon causing serious injury to a family member. The charges carry a maximum sentence of life in prison. He is also charged with tampering with a corpse, two additional counts of tampering with physical evidence and possession of a prohibited weapon.

Suzanne’s DNA was reportedly found on the “reciprocating saw” that law enforcement accused Simpson of hiding, according to the indictment and KABB Reporting–
“Knowing that an investigation was underway, that is, a missing persons investigation,” Simpson “did that . . . conceal something. That was a reciprocating saw” on Oct. 8, two days after his wife disappeared, the indictment said.

The indictment adds that on Oct. 1, 7, Simpson “acted then and there. Knowing that an offense had been committed, that is, murder, alteration, destruction, and concealment of a human corpse. It was intended to impair the availability of the remains as evidence in subsequent investigations related to the murder.”
