In our cynical timeline Hype is no longer a natural creation based on the enthusiasm of the masses. But it is something we have been taught that we already feel. Tomorrow’s teaser trailer for the launch of the James-led DC Cinematic Universe. Upcoming Gunn SupermanJust received my own teaser trailer.
Looking at the evidence—a piece of marketing material designed to get you interested in watching an upcoming piece of marketing material designed to get you interested in watching a movie—the resulting trickle-down effect is a series of Shots that tell us almost nothing about This film is for promotional purposes only. We saw pictures of people’s surprised reactions when they saw it. It is assumed that he is a man who can fly, stop bullets, and jump tall buildings in a single bound. We also see Superman for less than a second.
Hell, it worked, didn’t it? we post it
I assure you, we’re doing this as a cultural observation of the over-the-top assertiveness Warner Bros. and DC Studios are letting us know we’ve arrived at. And finally saw a rough picture. of this film They probably want that too.
What interests me most about it? is It shows that this is a challenging generality when it comes to media using Superman. Forget the serpent-gazing crowds that make up most of the picture. So we get a glimpse of the typical Daily Planet office (including Rachel Brosnahan’s Lois Lane and Skyler Gisondo’s Jimmy Olsen) for the split second Superman flies by, the ice inevitably surrounding his fortress of solitude. And Superman’s tiny dot disappeared into the clouds. Each can be elevated by every form of character adaptation since the early 1990s. Lois and Clark Towards the gray slope of 2006 Superman returns—Damn, all we know is that it’s not from 1948. Superman Serial or year 2013 iron man because it is color
However, it can be argued that these were all heroic acts. Which are actual words from Gunn. (Though who knows how involved he was in marketing?) And that was supported by two other factors: the title and the score.
Calling your movie SupermanWithout description is a statement. It already exists. Supermanin 1978, and Richard Donner’s version has never been updated in six films over three re-releases since. (Not to mention Snyder’s recurring beatings of characters in the DCU.) It was originally going to be called Superman: LegacyAnd dropping suffixes is nonsense. Gunn invites direct comparisons to Christopher Reeve’s classic, a beautifully shot film that still holds up nearly 50 years later.
Then there’s the theme. It was there, subtly at first. Amid the bass-heavy “thommmmm” that all superhero movie trailers are legally required to have. John’s classic melody was also performed. Williams once again comes off as faded, it’s an unabashed declaration that the film operates on the same level and pays homage to the same tone as the classics from which both material went. ushering in the era of modern superhero films and defining it.
Gunn is a fun filmmaker. And it deserves the success of such a funny and bizarre film. wiggle and Awesome!Followed by the fun and hilarity of cartoons. Guardian of the Galaxy trilogy and suicide unit– I’m really excited. That he tried to make something non-scary out of a DC property marks the end of an era of Snyder’s well-intentioned but gruesome endeavors. And he clearly fits the sillier, more subversive side of the comic franchise. But it’s playing. Superman Is this right? Is this your nose? I was amazed to see what happened. Although I doubt that tomorrow’s “teaser” will tell us anything useful.
My hopeless hope is that this might finally be the case. in the endThe time when someone wrote Superman A script that doesn’t depend on not controlling him to introduce danger or plot. My “time to Kryptonite” timer is ticking, and god, I hope it never stops. It is the great flaw of the great American hero. That the only way anyone could find an all-powerful and invincible god-like figure to make the film interesting was to make him incapacitated and weak incessantly. and rely on the hubris of the enemy to save the day.
(The CW’s big shoutout just finished Superman & Loiswhich even has old content That looks boring and the reliance on every shade of kryptonite is miserable. But it can make Clark Kent could be at risk. far In a more interesting way (Not least in the unusual third season arc following Lois’ cancer story.)
Are you excited about the teaser trailer that will be released six months to promote the film ahead of its July 11, 2025 release date? I sincerely hope we don’t give up on its simplicity by then.
