Top Senate DOGE Republican to send 24 letters to heads of each major federal agency to demand a last-minute end to work-from-home negotiations; Before President Biden returns to Delaware
Sen. Joni Ernst, R-Iowa, chair of the Senate GOP Policy Committee, called just days after the bill for 2025 would “decentralize” and move a third of the federal workforce outside of Washington, D.C. .C.

In her letter, Ernst said 90% of federal employees eligible to telework continue to work from home, and only 6% report they work “full-time.”
Additionally, she writes that public sector unions are “Personnel policy making” ignores federal directives from the Office of Management and Budget (OMB), which is running a huge tab and leads to wasted time, space, and money.
“Union bosses are rushing to lock in at the last minute. It has lavish long-term deals with the crippling Biden administration. This will extend beyond President Trump’s next term in office. to guarantee that public servants will be able to stay home for another four years or longer,” Ernst wrote in a letter prepared for Office of Personnel Management Director Robert Shriver III.
“It is clear that protecting telework privileges for government employees is a higher priority than showing up to serve American taxpayers,” she wrote, calling out Biden for giving in to union demands. “Shocking and unacceptable”
She noted that it was a similarly liberal president who vociferously opposed unionization of public employees in the first place. As Democrat Franklin Roosevelt wrote in a letter to union stewards declining an invitation to attend the 1937 National Convention of Federal Trade Unions.
“All government employees should be aware that the collective bargaining process As is generally understood They cannot be transferred into public service,” Roosevelt said.

“There are clear and insurmountable limitations when applied to the management of public figures. The nature and objectives of the government make it impossible for administrative officials to fully represent or bind employers in collective bargaining with public employee organizations.”
“Employers are all citizens who speak by virtue of the laws enacted by their representatives in Congress.”
Ernst suggested that federal workers and union representatives forgot Roosevelt’s warning. It cited a last-minute push to ratify the collective bargaining agreement and telework preferential treaty. Before President Donald Trump, presidential electors began providing oversight through DOGE.

In the letter, she embedded a photo of former Maryland Governor Martin O’Malley while he was Biden’s head of Social Security administration, and wore a Captain America T-shirt alongside union officials at a party.
Ernst cited news reports of O’Malley going to Florida to party with union members before endorsing a contract that prevents easily curtailing the ability to work from home.
She said O’Malley spent the trip “groaning” Irish ballads on his guitar and drinking alcohol.
“The friend-friend relationship between the Social Security Commissioner and the head of the union representing his workers during what was supposed to be negotiations. This resulted in a contract that was incredibly skewed towards the unions. and is contrary to the interests of taxpayers and the mission of the agency,” she said.
In another case She points to Housing and Urban Development employees who may not be eligible for TFUT, or “taxpayer-funded union time,” for which they apply.
