President Donald Trump announced several appointments as his team prepares to transition to the White House next year.

The new president announced Jamieson. Greer was his choice to serve as the next U.S. trade representative. Greer previously served as the trade representative’s chief of staff during Trump’s first term. That was Robert Lighthizer at a time when the administration was imposing tariffs on China and other countries.

In announcing Greer’s nomination Trump said in a statement that Greer was instrumental in his first term in imposing tariffs on China and other countries. and replaces trade agreements with Canada and Mexico. “So it makes American workers much better off.”

If confirmed by the Senate Greer will be responsible for negotiating directly with foreign governments on trade agreements and disputes. This includes membership in international trade organizations such as the World Trade Organization.

Also nominated is Jim O’Neill to serve as deputy secretary of Health and Human Services (HHS) to work with Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who has been tapped to lead the agency.
