Gene Carroll case because of the malice standard for public figures. Trump will have to prove that the network displayed willful reckless disregard for the truth, but ABC endures the embarrassment. That requires opening emails, texts, and cell phone records.
What surprised me was that the president-elect switched to attack mode just days after saying he had “tamed” the media and gotten better coverage. So much for the ceasefire.
But some positive aspects of Trump emerged during the hours-long news conference. Which is the earnest purpose I saw in an interview in New York two weeks before the election.

He talked about how the Biden team isn’t on the same level as the public about drones. He described the “illness” of those who are optimistic about the UnitedHealthcare CEO’s alleged murderer. He supports the polio vaccine, he defends Pete Hegseth, he talks about Venezuela and Syria and Turkey and North Korea and BB. He ponders TikTok.

There’s a feeling of déjà vu. It was a stark reminder that Trump was a 24-hour news source in his first term. Even if he talks to reporters he doesn’t like. Sometimes they disparage them or respond to their coverage. Contrast that with the soon-to-be-released ex-Guy, who has not shared any news about the weekends he usually spends in Delaware or at Camp David. There’s hardly anything better than this.
