President-elect Trump on Monday pledged to seek the death penalty for some federal criminal defendants. It comes days after President Biden controversially commuted the death sentences of 37 prisoners.
Biden’s move to reclassify the death penalty as a life sentence without the possibility of parole. It has been heavily criticized by many Republicans and Democrats.

“As soon as I took office I will instruct the Justice Department to aggressively pursue capital punishment. To protect families and children Americans from rapists, murderers, and violent monsters,” Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform, we will once again be a nation of law and order!”
In his message announcing the move The White House has said Biden’s actions will prevent the incoming Trump administration from taking action. It “carries out a death sentence that would not be conveyed under current policy and practice.”

Three men on federal death row have failed to meet Biden’s demands to commute their sentences.
