Albert Brewer of Sports Illustrated’s “Monday Morning Quarterback” appeared on “The Dan Patrick Show” where he said there could be seven to 10 head coaches that could be fired. After a turbulent season for many franchises
Brewer pointed out that two head coaches, Dennis Allen with the New Orleans Saints and Robert Saleh with the New York Jets, were fired midway through the season.
ERIC MANGINI isn’t turning down a return as head coach of the NEW YORK JETS.
“We have two, we have the Saints and the Jets. I think we can agree that the Jags pretty much got their hopes up. So that’s three. Dallas looks like it’s going that way, that’s four, so now you just need three more. I think it was between seven and ten,” Brewer said.
“I don’t think it’s going to break any records or anything like that. But I think it was probably between 7 and 10 in the morning.”
Looking at the teams Brewer mentioned, the Cowboys are expected to move on from head coach Mike McCarthy, whose contract expires after Week 18. Cowboys owner Jerry Jones isn’t closing the door on a possible extension, but if Dallas doesn’t finish strong, It’s hard to see McCarthy returning despite three consecutive 12-5 seasons in the years leading up to 2024.
Then Duval County sent Doug. Pederson is out. There’s a similar situation with McCarthy, though, with the franchise stuck with him through a 2-9 season so far.
Other coaches who find themselves on the hot seat include Brian Daboll (New York Giants), Matt Eberflus (Chicago Bears), Antonio Pierce (Las Vegas Raiders) and Zac Taylor (Cincinnati Bengals), among many others.
As for Daboll, Giants owner John Mara gave him a vote of confidence. Says he doesn’t expect any changes this offseason, including GM Joe Schoen, even though the Giants head to Thanksgiving to face the Cowboys with a 2- 9 record.
