Angel Reese fiercely defends her poor shooting percentage in an online debate with X users.

WNBA star Angel Reese was not in attendance on Tuesday.

The Chicago Sky rookie went out of her way to respond to a user with less than 300 followers on X after he mocked her for missing a layup.

Reese gave her 39% shooting percentage something to brag about to the fans’ impassioned applause.

“Did you know that I was drafted seventh in the class at the time? ‘Layups are gone’ as a rookie who shot 39% this year and is still an All-Star. And that is the worst thing you have ever seen of me,” Reese wrote. “Or are you just sleeping with your dog at home hating Adam?”

Reese’s response received a mixed response on social media, with some fans praising her for standing up for herself. Proud of her performance and expressed confidence about her future.

“(Angel Reese) = Leader + Competitor + Great Teammate…Awesome. Her best is yet to come!” one fan wrote.

Meanwhile Some social media critics mocked her even more for bragging about the 39% shot.

“I’m not really trying to hate at all, but 39% because players post is ridiculous work,” a critical user wrote in response.

Reese’s shooting ability was not a strong point of her game entering the WNBA after a championship collegiate career at LSU. At 6’3″, Reese is considered a top defender and rebounder. She lived up to that reputation as a rookie. At the same time, it proved doubtful about her ability to shoot very accurately.

She averaged 13.1 rebounds per game in 2024 and became the first player in WNBA history to have three consecutive 20-plus rebound games. At one point, Reese broke the WNBA single-season assist record on September 9, 1. However, season-ending wrist surgery a few weeks later prevented her from holding the record, while MVP A ‘ja Wilson broke his own record on 9/11/11.

As a shooter, Reese shot not only 39% from the field, but also 18.8% from 3-point range and just 73.6% at the free throw line. She missed several layups in her first year.

However, injuries and poor shooting didn’t stop Reese from going out there this year as a young professional sports star.

Her willingness to directly engage with relatively unknown social media users is similar to the infamous habit of veteran NBA superstar Kevin Durant.

In addition to social media exchanges with fans Reese has also become a podcast host and is starting to make her name in the hip-hop industry.
