“I think what you’re seeing is a slow retreat into the bush from Joe Biden here,” he said.

“I think back to the interview I did with Joe Biden,” Dovere said. “He was president for about three weeks. I was talking to him about a book I was writing. And part of what I’m getting at is that he’s trying to portray himself as Joe Biden, the president-elect.”

“It’s not just Barack Obama’s vice president, it’s not just the guy who defeated Donald Trump,” he continued, “but that’s now part of who he is. And it might define who he is. A few weeks before the election I talked with senior people in the White House. And I said that if Harris loses, it’s mostly how Biden is remembered. At least in the short term it is people who are on Trump’s terms.”

“At the moment, that’s the way he acts,” Dover said.
